Hi my friends.
First of all sorry for writting in english but I don't know french.
I have a 1996 Peugeot 605 Petrol engine, 2.0 litre 16 valve fuel injected inline-four, 97 kW (132 PS; 130 bhp) Since 2011 my car has an issue with the engine's idle and there is no a repairing shop in Spain that's able to solve it. I'm actually desperate with this issue because I love this car and I want to keep him alive for many years more.
The problem is that the engine's idle goes up and down, up and down, and sometimes the engine even stop. The car is not able to keep the engine's idle. Here two videos of this problem:
This problem doesn't happen always, it happens some days, and other days the engine's idle works perfectly (it seems to be totally random). This issue use to be worse with rainy weather.
I brought the car to several repairing shops. Some of them made the engine worse in a clumsy research of what was happening, but in the last two repairing shops they were really professionals and I'm sure the last repairing shop is a really good good place. They worked 3 months on the engine and they fixed some problems in the engine. The engine is working now really well when it is running (like new!), but the engine's idle issue is still there :( They told me the next step would be open the whole engine (cilinders, valves, etc), clean it very well, and search something over there. Only oppening the engine would be 2000€, so I wanted to ask here if someone had this trouble with the engine's idle, and if you could give me some clue about where this issue could comes from before spending all that money in cleaning the engine inside.
I'm sorry if my english is not the best and thanks in advance for any help. Best regards. Lorenzo.
Good evening Above all do not disassemble your engine for now, we will help you. Tonight it's late, I'll read my docs and we'll see. 1. - What did you see a Peugeot garage? 2. - Did they plug in the control computer? 3. - Did they check the connectors 4. --Is what the supply coils of the candles have been checked 5. - What candles are good. 6. - We will find but not dismantling the engine
( My english is not good. This French / English translation was made by a tool found on the internet)

Thanks for the reply Debeno.
Peugeot garage didn't give a solution. For your questions: They plugged in the control computer and it was ok. The connectors and supply coils of candles are fine. The supply coil of candles was even changed by another one, and the issue was still there. The candles are new and tested, everything ok.
My question anyway is more focused in knowing if someone in the forum had the same problem with engine's idle, because I believe the last garage worked really well in the whole engine (but for the disassembling) and they still don't know the reason of the issue.
I also would like to know if the problem can come from the ECU (Electronic Central Unit), even if the diagnosis of it is ok.
The english is mine, the french was google translator
I do not have a 605 with the same engine as yours by cons I had the same problem on a 306 with a 1.6 litre 8 valve fuel injected inline-four. The failure came from the idle speed controller and the carburetor stepper motor.
So I think you should check on your car: - The idle regulator (on the carburettor) (ref: 1920 X9) - possibly the condition of the throttle housing admission 'carburetor (ref 1635C9 (or 163588)) - check the engine speed sensor (ref: 1920 W9) - check the lambda probe (ref: E144001) - disconnect the canister solenoid valve (ref: 1628 F0) to ensure that it operates correctly
If you give me the N ° VIN (number starting with VF on the car registration card) I will be able to give you the exact references of the parts mounted on your car.
I do not think it's a problem of the ECU

Hi debeno.
Thanks for the help. was the problem of your 306 exactly the same than you can see in my videos??
By parts:
- The idle regulator (on the carburettor) (ref: 1920 X9) It is new, the problem persisted in the same way without a idle regulator, with the previous idle regulator, and with the new idle regulator.
- possibly the condition of the throttle housing admission 'carburetor (ref 1635C9 (or 163588)) I don't have idea about what it is. I guess they for sure checked and fixed if needed in the last workshop, but I'm not 100% sure about it.
- check the engine speed sensor (ref: 1920 W9) A friend told me: when it fails, the problem appears at high revolutions. My car is working more than perfect at high revolutions, so I guess it is not the problem. Again for sure they checked in the last workshop, but I can't say it 100%.
- check the lambda probe (ref: E144001) My car past the ITV and the lambda value was correct. I don't think it is the problem.
- disconnect the canister solenoid valve (ref: 1628 F0) to ensure that it operates correctly I don't have idea about it. Again I guess they checked in the last workshop, but I can't say 100% sure.
The VIN is: VF 36BRFV291036541.
Should I go to the workshop and ask about all those parts you told me? I hope they remember my car hehe for sure yes, it is a very rare car in Spain.
Hie Viej0 Not exactly the same on my 306 but it looks like. The diet goes up and stabilizes for a while. This problem does not always happen but from time to time. I unplug the accelerator potentiometer connector (ref 16281E) and the idle stabilizes. I hardly use this car anymore and therefore I will not correct this anomaly. Other bodies that influence idling are: - the management assistant, --Air conditioning
You could see with a Bosch Car Service Spain they are qualified enough

Hmm I didn't try a Bosh Car Service, and there is one near to my job. I will try it.
